Gadget overview:: The Polar FT4
Includes
Time programming/timer
Alarm programming
Heart rate monitor/calorie counter (with chest strap)
To be honest, this product slightly intimidated me when I opened it— the watch is a little more hi-tech than I was used to…not to mention the heart strap looked like a nuisance to deal with.
However, this morning I gave the Polar FT4 a go and couldn’t be more excited.
The heart strap (you simply wrap it around your chest, right under your sports bra) is a piece of cake— I hardly even knew it was there once it was on and secure. In fact, this morning I went for a 2 mile run and did some leg work and the heart strap never slipped once.
At the end of my workout the Polar FT4 had gauged my heart rate which resulted in about 440 calories burned. Naturally this is less than what the machines calculate at the gym (they are, more often than not, way off).
This accuracy is great because, although I don’t count calories, I do like to be calorie conscious. This is also a great way to gauge your workout and find ways to improve next time.
I highly recommend this watch for anyone who is really interested in seeing improvement beyond the mirror/scale.
The prices range anywhere from $70-120 on the Polar website, but I found mine on Amazon for less than $60. Take a look around the find a good deal— you won’t be disappointing with this product!
